Volunteer Opportunities

We always welcome volunteers to help at Open Hands! For more information, send email to

If you or your organization would like to serve as volunteers, please
contact us first to schedule the best time to volunteer. In most instances, we need volunteers only for the hours that Open Hands serves our guests and unfortunately, we are usually unable to accommodate large numbers of new volunteers on a given day. But check with us anyway.

In 2015, volunteer hours at Open Hands were over 3,700 hours. Thank you one and all!

Volunteers serve clients on Monday afternoons and Saturday mornings.  Volunteer roles include:
  • Filing
  • Sorting donations
  • Stocking the grocery room
  • Checking in clients
  • Interviewing clients
  • Helping clients choose groceries
  • Helping clients carry groceries
Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to accommodate volunteers under the age of 14. We are also not able to take on court-ordered "community service" volunteers at this time.

Check this space for special volunteer opportunities.
From time to time, we need assistance unloading deliveries from Gleaners.  These deliveries typically occur on Friday mornings.
In addition, we are sometimes recipients of food drive proceeds, such as the Postal Food Drive in May.  We need assistance sorting food into different categories, boxing, and labeling.
